To celebrate the 40th anniversary of our Sister City relationship with China, Philadelphia welcomed many of our friends from abroad. Mayor Kenney greeted Executive Vice Mayor Duan Chunhua during a private meeting and Memorandum of Understanding signing at City Hall. This was Chairman Duan’s first visit to the United States, and we were delighted to show him the very best of Philadelphia from the Philadelphia Orchestra to Temple University. This special delegation explored opportunities for educational collaboration between our two cities, as well as a multitude of business opportunities. With help from the Chinatown Development Corporation’s new Crane Community Center, Tianjin is expanding business in Philadelphia.

|At Citizen Diplomacy’s October First Thursday, 10 inspiring panelists shared their experience building business connections in China and the opportunities for collaboration in life sciences between Philly and China. The panels emphasized that trust is still the key element in building relationships with partners abroad. Using resources like the international business team in the Department of Commerce when exploring new ventures can increase success. A key takeaway highlighted that although trade relationships may be rocky now, when things improve, companies will remember the people they have created bonds with.|
