From Skal Philadelphia, June Seminario was able to attend…
The 80th Skal International World Congress was hosted by Skal Miami, Sept 14-20. June enjoyed the opportunity to spend a week with fellow Skalleagues on the Royal Caribbean Symphony of the Seas, where the host committee did an excellent job hosting about 550 delegates and guests.
The events included a Welcome Reception prior to the Welcome dinner, the Opening Ceremonies, the General Assembly, various Forums, the Business to Business session and the President’s Reception and Gala, ending with a closing Reception. All sessions were suitable for renewing friendships, making new friends and contacts and networking.
At the General Assembly, the incoming Executive Committee was elected for 2020. Burcin Turkkan of Skal Atlanta, USA was elected as Junior Director and John Ruzich, Skal NY was again elected Auditor. The Sustainability award winners and Club of the Year were announced. Note that SKal Northern New Jersey placed 3rd for Club of the Year, the winner was Skal Bangkok. We also voted to confirm next year’s Congress in Croatia and we voted to hold the 2021 World Congress in Quebec City, Canada. The main points of discussion were the Digital Transformation and the future of Young Skal and if it should evolve.
The highlight of the meeting for June was the additional time allotted for questions and discussion from the members, which was much more interactive this year. The future of Skal looks bright as members and leaders are all in agreement that the direction is to promote Skal and for the members to promote B2B. As always, the best part of World Congress is the priceless opportunity to meet new fellow Skalleagues and develop lasting friendships. https://www.skalworldcongress2019.com
